Mette Bloch: About giving good habits to your children
“Why should I eat them here?” Line wrinkled her nose when I gave her some vitamins.
She was 12 years old at the time and she did not feel she needed any kind of support.
"Because they ensure that you get what you need in terms of vitamins and minerals if you don't get enough through your diet" I answered slightly confused.
Line held firm. She wasn't sick, and she was fine, so why on earth did she have to eat anything she thought was strange?
After thinking for a bit, I grabbed her again. “Of course you have to choose completely yourself. I'm not going to decide, but before you just dismiss it, let me give you an example. Imagine you have built a new house. It is super beautiful and delicious. You have built a basement, and because it was a little more expensive than expected, you just saved on the volume drain.” Line glared at me, "what is a scope drain?"
"Well, it's a kind of protective layer, you can call it a raincoat, which is dug a good distance down around the house wall to keep the wall dry and free from moisture"
I can tell from Line that she is losing interest in the story, so I try to get to the point quickly. "If you save that drain away, your house will be fine, dry and delicious for - perhaps - many years. Like you're fine now. But over time, moisture will enter the foundation, and once it has, it is incredibly difficult to get rid of it again. In other words, it is better to prevent than to treat. If you give your body what it needs to stay fit and healthy, you don't have to struggle with having to repair something that's broken.
Since then she has taken the supplements she feels she needs.

Whether you need supplements or not is always up to you, but I have learned that it is incredibly difficult to get everything I need through my diet every single day. Sometimes I don't have time to cook a perfectly balanced meal, and to be completely honest, sometimes I don't even bother. But because I know I'm getting my vitamins and minerals, I live with the cheaters that are there. If you haven't tried the vitamins yet, give them a shot! And the best thing about VitaYummy? I don't have to convince my 5-year-old granddaughter Ellie of anything. She loves them!
